What is Your Organizing Style?
The Big Picture
Are You
-
Adventurous,
and enjoy change and variety?
-
Independent and
a good improviser?
-
Best at getting
the Big Picture”, a visionary?
-
Highly
energetic, able to juggle multiple tasks?
-
Willing to take
risks and prefer to take on new projects rather than
finishing something in front of you?
Your Challenges May
Be
-
Too many
short-term interests, and working in spurts of energy.
-
Impulsiveness,
easily side-tracked. You must practice finishing one small
task at a time, and document what you’ve finished so that
you don’t forget and end up re-doing it again.
-
Dislike of
slow-paced work and/or routines. Your brain is always
looking beyond the horizon, waiting for others to catch up
(and letting them take care of the details for you). Your
future-thinking is invaluable, but don’t discount the value
of the details and work needed to bring your vision into
reality.
-
You love being
organized once it’s in place for you, but you are not so
adept at keeping it tidy. Make a (written) promise to
re-organize on a quarterly basis, and you’ll be less
overwhelmed when things begin to slide.
You May Prefer to
Organize With
-
A
Calendar/Schedule that is easy to use (large, visual), hangs
in front of you where you are most likely to see it, and
allows for moveable Post-It Notes to keep track of things.
-
Storage:
Stacking Systems and clear, open containers work best for
you. You know what is in your stacks and you need to see
collected items all at once. You prefer to pile, and you
tend to “hang” clothes rather than fold/put in drawers.
-
You are able to
purge and organize, but in small doses, and within set time
limits. Us a timer and give yourself only 1 task at a time,
and a time limit that you can manage. And remember to reward
yourself when the organizing task is 100% complete.
